Upsets in Carlsberg Cup

Nomads survived Max Bullets scare

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Kamuzu Barracks and Dedza Young Soccer Stars sailed through to the last 16 of the K30 million Carlsberg Cup.
However, four other Super League teams—Epac FC, Airborne Rangers Rangers, Wizards FC and Mzuni—were kicked out of the tournament.
Wanderers saw-off   Max Bullets’ spirited challenge to emerge 2-1 victors in a tight match played at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.
Isaac ‘Tcheya’ Kaliati put the Nomads ahead in the 10th minute when he headed home Mike Kaziputa’s corner kick while midfielder Rafiq Mussa added the second in the 41st minute.
But Bullets, who play in the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League, came back strongly in the second half and hit one back through Chiyembekezo Harry in the last minute.
Kamuzu Barracks beat fellow soldiers Changalume Barracks 2-0 with goals from Manase Chiyesa and  Zinjani Yona while Dedza Young Soccer also triumpged against Karonga United by the same margin.
At Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, third-tier league side Silver Reserves stunned Epac FC 3-1 at Silver Stadium.
Noxy Phiri put Reserves in the lead but Epac equalised through winger Gerald Nkungula. But Silver Reserves scored two quick goals in the second half through Henry Kanyama and Masuzgo Phiri.
On Thursday Wizards FC lost to Chirumba Barracks 1-0 with Komani Msiska scoring the lone goal.
OP FC beat Master Security 2-0 with goals from Nixon Mzava and Kumbukani Phiri
