
Masters Security Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier Division side Prison United on Saturday became the latest team to cause an upset in the Carlsberg Cup when they pipped TNM Super league side Epac FC 1-0 in Zomba.
Prison’s win completed the last 16 of the tournament. They will now face fellow second-tier league side Zomba United.
Gift Sikubiri scored the lone goal of the match with two minutes to full time from a spectacular free-kick outside the 18-yard box.
Prison United general secretary Gerald Nyanga said they were delighted at the win.
“We planned for them well. We are now looking forward to the match against Zomba. I think our chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals are now 50-50,” he said.
Epac became the fifth Super League side to be booted out of the tournament after MTV Max Bullets, Civo United, Blue Eagles and Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC.
Max Bullets were also shown the exit by another lower league side Zolozolo so too Mzuni who were booted out by Warm Heart Bullets.
