Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has set the top-flight league sponsorship at a minimum of K500 million.
In his speech during TNM Super League prize presentation at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre, FAM president Fleetwood Haiya said the association expects the league’s sponsorship to be not less than K500 million.
Haiya said he expects the sponsors to consider the K500 million threshold when adjusting the sponsorship.
He said: “I made a commitment to create a conducive environment for the top-flight league to flourish. Our desire is to see the league grow and become one of the most attractive and exciting leagues in the region.
“As a starting point, therefore, we are working tirelessly to ensure that we secure a minimum of K500 million for the league sponsorship and raise the subvention for each club to a minimum of K20 million.”
On his part, Herbert said they will triple the K150 million sponsorship next season, which means it is below FAM expectations.
In his speech, Sulom acting president Gilbert Mittawa thanked Haiya, who was association’s president since February 2023 before he was elected FAM president in December 2023, for drumming up support for the TNM Super League.
He said: “Allow me to say the same to my friend, brother and colleague FH [Fleetwood Haiya]. You are an amazing person and leader. Within a very short period, you have shown us what it means to manage the game of football.
“Congratulations for becoming FAM president and for leading the way. But, remember, those sleepless nights, those long drives, those nights you spent without your family will be meaningless if you don’t exploit this success. We know you have Sulom at heart, and we are assured of your support.”
Mittawa also promised to continue Haiya’s legacy at Sulom.
He said: “We will build on the strong foundation that you laid at Sulom to continue reviving, reforming and rebranding the league so that we can transform Malawi football.”
