FAM to hold UEFA Assist League development and Elite Youth Coaching programm

FAM will hold two UEFA Assist programmes, the League Development and Elite Youth Coaching Seminar in Lilongwe from tomorrow.

The four-day League development programme will be held at Capital Hotel from tomorrow to Wednesday while the Elite Youth Coaching workshop will be held at the Bingu National Stadium from Monday to Thursday

The League development programme is aimed at building capacity for Super League clubs and Super League of Malawi in the quest to professionalise the Super League league and club development, by providing long term development plan for football.

FAM Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka, who is the FAM UEFA Assist Project Lead, said two representatives from the 16 Super League clubs plus FAM and Sulom secretariat staff will attend the workshop which among others will include an in-depth operational review of the competition structure in Malawi as well as the commercial, financial and governance aspects of the Super League in order to strengthen the existing league system.

A UEFA Team comprising of experts Stuart Larman, Geoff Wilson and UEFA Head of International Relations Eva Pasquirer will arrive in the country today to facilitate the porgramme.

“The Super League represents the most visible image of our football and the success of clubs is directly linked to the strength of the league. It is therefore imperative to have standards in all aspects of the league in key areas such as Competitions, Governance, Operations, Communications and Income Generation.

“It is another opportunity for us to continue with our vision of raising the Bar by Professionalising our League. Over the years, we have had several interventions to make our League better. For instance, this journey started in 2007 with the Lilongwe Declaration then we have also tried to set standards through FAM Club Licensing.

“After the workshop the experts will meet FAM and Sulom Executive Committees to present recommendations to guide the league through the support of a mentoring programme,” said Zakazaka.

On the other hand, the Elite Youth Coaching seminar will attract 30 participants drawn from the FCB Under 20 League and will be facilitated by a UEFA expert Roger Meichtry.

This is the second year of the UEFA Assist Programmes in Malawi. Last year FAM received a minivan under the infrastructure development programme as well hosting an Organisational Leadership Retreat.
