
Blue Eagles on Sunday failed to dislodge Silver Strikers from the pinnacle of the TNM Super League after being held to a goalless draw by defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
In was thrilling encounter that shredded the nerves of the big turnout, but despite creating a number of chances, both teams failed to make good use of them.
Silver and Eagles are tied at the top of the table with 29 points from 14 games but the Bankers have a better goal difference.
Bullets are sixth with 23 points from 12 games, just like their age-old rivals Be Forward Wanderers, who however, have an inferior goal difference.
The Nomads beat Kamuzu Barracks (KB) 2-1 on Saturday courtesy of Peter Wadabwa’s brace while Lehman Nthala scored for KB.
At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, it had to take MTV Max Bullets’ last game of the first round to register their first victory when they came from two goals down to beat Mafco 3-2.
Mafco took a two goal lead in the first half through Joseph Dosa and Richard Mbulu, but the hosts came back strongly in the second half and scored through Frazer Menyani (2) and Pilirani Thomson.
Despite the win, Max Bullets still anchor the table with seven points, but the win will go a long way to instil confidence in the team.
Zomba-based soldiers Red Lions had a bad outing to the North where they lost to Moyale 1-2 and Karonga United 2-1.
It was Karonga’s second win in this campaign and they are now third from the bottom with 11 points from 15 games.
