Malawi Under-17 finish third at Cosafa tourney

The Junior Flames

The Malawi Under-17 national soccer team finished third at the Cosafa Under-17 Tournament held in Mauritius after beating Kenya 2-0 on Sunday.
Namibia were the eventual winners following their 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over South Africa’s Amajimbo.
Peter Banda and Fransisco Madinga were on target for the Junior Flames.
Banda scored the first goal in the 58th minute before  Madinga claimed the second in the 87th minute with a great solo run from the half-way line.
In a post-match interview with cosafa.com, Msakakuona said: “It was a tough game. It was not the same team we scored five against in the group stages. We scored one and then defended and if chances showed up, we could score more and that is what happened. So the goal is achieved against a good Kenyan team.”
He also praised the quality of the football seen at the competition.
“The level is high and it’s a good tournament. With these types of tournaments, this benefits Africa and its players a lot, especially the youth.”
A total of 16 matches were played and 48 goals were scored.
Malawi registered the biggest victory—5-0 over guest side  Kenya.
