FAM Challenges SL Coaches to embrace technology

Football Association of Malawi has urged Super League Coaches to embrace modern football coaching technology if they are to advance their careers and develop Malawi football.

FAM Executive Member and Chairperson of the Technical Subcommittee Tiya Somba Banda said this when he opened a two-day refresher course for Super League Coaches at Mpira Village in Blantyre on Thursday.

Somba Banda said football is changing every day and the coaches need to quickly adapt to the modern trends of the trade.

“FAM recognises that Coaching is a profession and the refresher course is like a continuous development programme for them to learn new things.

“Some of the coaches are coming straight from the CAF B Coaching Course we held last summer while others have taken time since they did their courses. Hence the refresher will update them on emerging issues in Coaching.

“Football is evolving and now with the game on TV, it is a must for a Coach to be able analyse player performance using videos. This course will therefore impart the knowledge on how they can do this and I have urged them to pay much attention to the facilitators so that they go out and discharge their duties differently this season.

“As a country, we also want to have many coaches working as expatriates in other countries but this can only happen if we have more competent coaches and video analysis is one of the requirements,” said Somba.

National Football Coaches Association Chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni hailed FAM for coming up with the refresher course saying it will help enhancing the Coaches’ skills as they prepare for the new season.

“As NFCA, we are very grateful to FAM for the refresher course because we know that the game is changing. It’s high time as Malawian coaches we changed our mindset to improve football both at club and national level,” said Nankhuni.

The Course has brought together coaches from all Super League teams and the Malawi National Football teams.
