SCOCHERS SECURE TWO FRIENDLY MATCHES AGAINST ZAMBIA

The Malawi National Women’s Football Team, The Scorchers, have secured two friendly games against Zambia for the February Women’s FIFA Window.

The matches will be played in Zambia on Thursday 20th February, and Sunday 23rd February 2025.

The Scorchers were initially scheduled to play against the Republic of the Congo in the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers, but Congo opted out of the competition due to lack of competitions and preparation.

Malawi’s Coach Lovemore Fazili has commended FAM for securing the two matches as they will give him a rare opportunity to assess his full squad.

“These two games are very important because we are looking for our strengths and weaknesses, we have to taste our self on where we stand, and the games are coming at a right time”

On objectives of the games, he added:

“Winning is something that is our priority, but at the same time we have to develop our team we need to see the coordination, body language of the players and we should build a better future team”

“We are supposed to improve in all areas though we have good players, we have to improve all the departments of the field but we will look very much on goalkeeping and defense which have been a problem in the previous assignments”

The local based players are set to begin camp on Friday, 7th February 2025 in Blantyre while the foreign based players will join the team later on.

In the next round of AFCON qualifiers, Malawi will play against the winner between Zimbabwe and Angola in October and will qualify for their debut AFCON if they win that tie.
