2024 Airtel Top Player of the Tournament nominees

The Football Association of Malawi has unveiled a list of three nominees for the 2024 Airtel Top 8 Player of the Tournament Award.

The nominees include the Nyasa Big Bullets duo of goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba and midfielder Yankho Singo and Silver Strikers forward Chinsinsi Maonga.

The winner will be announced at a special ceremony hosted by Airtel Malawi, with the event date to be confirmed shortly.

The nominations were determined by the Competitions Technical Study Group after a thorough analysis of the competition’s statistics. A selected group of coaches from National Coaches Association, who were responsible for naming the player of the match during the competition, along with selected sports journalists, will vote to decide the award.

Richard Chimbamba was one of the key Bullets players as they defended the Airtel Top 8 title. He was unbeaten in the three matches he played in the competition.

Club: Silver Strikers

Total Number of Minutes played: 264

Goals: 3

Chinsinsi Maonga finished as the tournament’s top goal scorer with three goals proving how vital he was to his side run in the competition as they bankers missed a third Top 8 title by a whisker. He scored all the three goals coming from the bench.

Position: Midfielder

Club: FCB Nyasa Big Bullets

Number of games Played: 4

Number of games started: 4

Total Number of Minutes played: 360

Assist: 1

Yango Singo played every minute of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets run to the title and was outstanding in the midfield. He spiced up his involvement in the team with one assist as Bullets defended the championship.
