Young Scorchers hoping for come back

The Malawi national U20 women’s team coach Maggie Chombo says the team is set for revenge as they face Zambia at the Bingu National Stadium in a 2022 Costa Rica FIFA Women’s Under 20 World Cup Qualifier second leg on Saturday.

The Young Scorchers lost 6-0 to Zambia in the first leg two weeks ago and Chombo says, though it is a tall order, they will cause an upset.

She attributed the loss to fatigue as the girls had travelled at night and did have enough time for recovery before the match.

Chombo says her technical panel had enough time to prepare the girls for the return leg.

“We had enough time to prepare for the match and fix the errors that we saw in the first leg. The morale in our camp is very high mostly because we have had called back the girls who tested positive before the first leg. So we have a wider choice of girls and the competition is high this time around.

“We lost in the first leg but this time around, we cannot let them defeat us at our own home ground so with a strong team that we have built now, we are hoping for a better result tomorrow, said Chombo.

The winner between the two teams will face the winner between Mauritania and Ghana in the next round.
