The Malawi Under 17 girls national football was formed in 2022 and made its debut at home during the COSAFA Under 17 Girls Championship that was played during the Regional VI games in Lilongwe in December 2022.

The girls defied all the odds to win the bronze in their debut international appearance after beating Botswana 9-0 win in the third-place play-off.

Under coach Trevour Kajawa they neared pulled a shocker in the semi-finals when they forced Zambia to a 2 all draw before losing on post-match penalties.

The team’s captain Rose Kabzere finished as the tournament top goal scorer with 8 goals.
