Malawi Women’s National Football Team Head Coach Lovemore Fazili says his players are ready to capitalize on home advantage and make history by qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Scorchers host Angola this Tuesday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe after holding the visitors to a goalless draw last week in Luanda — a result that gives Malawi a strong chance to seal qualification in front of home fans.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference, Fazili said his players understand the magnitude of the fixture and that the technical panel has worked on correcting mistakes from the first leg.
“We are ready for the game. The players have been training well and they know how important this match is. I’m confident we will get the win,” Fazili said.
“We created good chances in Angola and have been working on improving our finishing. I can assure Malawians that we’re ready — whatever we lacked away, we’ll do better at home.”
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that entry for all open stands will be free, with only the VIP and Corporate Box sections requiring tickets — a move aimed at encouraging massive turnout and ensuring the Scorchers receive full home backing.
Fazili applauded the initiative, describing it as timely motivation for the players.
“This is a must-win game for us. The fans will give us energy, but it’s up to us to fight for victory. We have a great chance to qualify, and I believe we’ll make it,” he said.
The winner between Malawi and Angola will secure qualification for the 2026 WAFCON to be hosted in Morocco.
