Wanderers, Blue Eagles Battle for Final Spot

Mighty Wanderers and Blue Eagles will square off at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday in the second semi-final of the 2026 Airtel Top 8 Cup, with both sides chasing a place in the final of Malawi’s premier knockout competition.

The winner will book a date with either Karonga United or Ekhaya FC, who meet in Saturday’s first semi-final.

Wanderers head into the encounter after negotiating a difficult quarter-final against Creck Sporting Club. The Nomads carried a slender advantage into the second leg after edging Creck in the opening encounter before holding their nerve to secure progression on aggregate. The six-time Airtel Top 8 champions relied on their experience and defensive discipline to keep alive their hopes of adding another trophy to their rich cabinet.

Blue Eagles, meanwhile, earned their place in the last four after edging Civil Service United on the away goals rule following a closely contested two-legged quarter-final. The Area 30 outfit displayed resilience and tactical discipline throughout the tie to eliminate their fellow Capital City rivals and reach the semi-finals.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides this year, with Mighty Wanderers holding the upper hand in recent encounters. The Nomads have won four of their last five meetings against Blue Eagles, with the Area 30 outfit claiming victory in the other.

Sunday’s encounter promises to be a fascinating contest between two experienced cup sides. Wanderers will be aiming to reach another Airtel Top 8 final and move one step closer to winning their second title, while Blue Eagles will be looking to return to the final and add another crown to their honours.

With a place in the final at stake, both teams will be determined to produce their best performance and keep their Airtel Top 8 title ambitions alive.
