Vacancy Re-advertisement Technical Director

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is the national governing body of football in Malawi whose mission is to effectively organize, administer, develop, promote and control the game of football in Malawi consistent with FIFA rules and regulations. FAM is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Technical Director tenable at its Head Office in Blantyre.

The successful candidate will be reporting to the General Secretary and Chairperson of Technical Committee.

Job Purpose

Defining and leading the technical development programmes of the Football Association of Malawi.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a technical strategy over defined years in order to improve the game of the football at all levels within the country from Grassroots to Elite including youth football, women’s football, futsal, beach Soccer, and Coaching Education.
  • Advise the FA on all matters related to the effective development of football in the country and be accountable for the development of a strategy and policy for the performance of football programmes
  • Work, advise and support the various Youth National teams and coaches through development programmes, including putting in place clear systems and processes for identifying and developing talented players
  • Ensure that excellent relationships are developed and maintained with all football related stakeholders in order to ensure a cohesive and synergistic approach to the development of football is achieved and maintained
  • Ensure that the Technical Department is appropriately staffed with suitably qualified individuals who are capable of implementing the agreed programmes thereby ensuring the growth and success of football at all levels
  • Maintain a close and harmonious working relationship with COSAFA, CAF and FIFA and other major stakeholders.
  • Encourage the expansion and promote the participation of football by as many people as possible
  • Define a coach education programme in line with the needs of FAM and the parameters of the CAF coaching convention
  • Reinforce the competitiveness of women’s and youth national teams
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to the senior national team coach
  • Collaborate with other departments (management board)
  • Provide input for the technical development of clubs and regional associations
  • Leading staff of the technical department as well as managing the budget assigned to it
  • Perform any additional duties and responsibilities as reasonably instructed by the FA from time to time

Requirements

  • At least a Pro-Football Coaching license and a degree in Sports Management with at least 5 years’ experience in  Football Development Strategy Models, Strategic Action plans and or football structures and any other related qualifications,
  • Knowledge of Malawi football is a must.
  • Experience in conducting mid-term and final evaluations of football projects and programs, including knowledge of Results Frameworks and monitoring and evaluation quantitative skills.
  • Proven expertise in conducting institutional and policy assessments and reviews.
  • Experience in  development of technical frameworks
  • Ability to work in the multi-cultural team environment and deliver results within tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience in Result Based Management including in depth understanding of Theory of Change
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluent in English.
  • Proven knowledge and expertise in football regulations.
  • The Experience in conducting mixed method research approaches including quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
  • Track record of successful delivery of high-quality reports and advice to Football Associations
  • Excellent analytical, research and report writing skills.
  • Experience as a coach and coach instructor
  •  Recognition by the national football stakeholders
  •  Leadership, communication and networking skills
  • Experience in governance and development of accountability frameworks
  • Track record of successful delivery of high-quality reports and advice for strategic football development
  • Excellent analytical, research and report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Exposure to similar works in other countries is an added advantage
  • Maintain FAM’s ethics and standards in interactions within and outside the association
