Tight Race as NBM Women’s Premiership Resumes After Break

The race for the inaugural National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership title resumes this weekend after a short break.

The Bankers lead the standings with 15 points from five games — boasting a 100% winning streak — while Ascent Soccer trail closely in second with 12 points from four wins and a single defeat.

Kukoma Ntopwa Women sit third with 9 points from three wins and two losses, sharing the tally with Mighty Wanderers Queens, who are separated only by goal difference. Wanderers have also won three of their five games but will be on the road this weekend to face Civil Service Women at Civo Stadium on Saturday.

Civil Service Women, currently 7th with six points from one win, three draws, and one defeat, will be aiming for maximum points to close in on the top four.

In another key fixture, Ascent Soccer travel to Mzuzu Stadium to face MK Academy, who are in the relegation zone with a single point from five games. Ascent will look to capitalize on the fixture to keep pressure on leaders Silver Strikers.

Meanwhile, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, sitting 6th with seven points, will host Topik Academy at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. Topik are yet to register a single point this season and will be hoping for a miracle against a strong Bullets side.

At Champion Stadium, MDF Lionesses — who are fifth with eight points — host Moyale Sisters, who sit eighth with four points. The Lionesses will be eager to bounce back into the top four, while Moyale are desperate for points to stay clear of the drop zone.

With four matches left to conclude the first round, every point matters. Silver Strikers Ladies, who have scored 15 goals and conceded only three, will be keen to protect their narrow three-point lead over Ascent Soccer.

Ascent, who have also conceded just three goals while netting 13, remain strong contenders, setting the stage for a potential two-horse race.

However, Kukoma Ntopwa Women and Mighty Wanderers Queens, both on nine points, still have a chance to catch up — keeping the battle for CAF Women’s Champions League qualification wide open.
