Mitundu Baptist forward Raheem Mtondera emerged as the standout marksman of the NBS Bank National Division League after finishing the season with an unassailable 25 goals to claim the inaugural Golden Boot Award.
Mtondera’s achievement was made even more remarkable by his discipline on the pitch. He was shown just two yellow cards in 20 appearances, at a time when Mitundu Baptist accumulated a total of 37 bookings across 22 matches.
His sharp focus on scoring and providing assists is seen as a key factor behind his exemplary discipline, particularly in a position where attackers are often cautioned for unintended fouls during high intensity play.
Mchinji Villa striker Davie Juwawo finished second on the scoring charts with 14 goals from 16 matches. However, his impressive return was not enough to save his side from relegation, with many of his goals coming in matches Mchinji Villa eventually lost.
Fourth placed FOMO FC, who were relegated from the TNM Super League in 2024, placed two players among the top scorers. Rashid Chiromo scored eight goals in 18 matches, while Chitsanzo Saidi netted seven times in 22 appearances.
Three players finished joint on three goals, namely Matorino Clement of Chilumba Barracks, Madalitso Jeffrey of Ndirande Stars, and champions Red Lions forward Mphatso Magaleta.
Several players ended the campaign on five goals, including Baka City duo Amon Mwakitatu and Hastings Ndau. They were joined by Bangwe All Stars trio Dyson Moffat, Moses Gunde and Seleman Mussah, as well as Namitete Zitha forward Alexander Cosmas.
Defenders dominated the disciplinary chart, led by Chimwemwe Nyoni of FOMO FC and Chikondi Simeon of Ndirande Stars, who each picked up seven yellow cards. They were followed by Red Lions defender James Emmanuel on six bookings.
A group of players ended the season on five yellow cards, including Chintheche United’s Lumbani Kamtoma, Mitundu Baptist’s Tamandani Ngulube, Namitete Zitha’s Precious Fwetse, Mchinji Villa’s Kumbukani Bofote and Ndirande Stars forward Madalitso Jeffrey.
Midfielders Henderson Banda of Mitundu Baptist, Wongani Gondwe of Red Lions and James Ching’amba of Mchinji Villa each received four yellow cards, alongside defender Victor Luhanga of relegated Jenda United.
Red card statistics showed Ndirande Stars leading with four dismissals, while Chilumba Barracks, Chintheche United, Mitundu Baptist and Namitete Zitha each recorded two.
Despite not featuring in all 22 matches, Mtondera still finished as the league’s top scorer. Players who logged the most minutes were predominantly defenders, a goalkeeper and a midfielder.
Only three players were ever present across all 22 matches of the season, with Namitete Zitha goalkeeper Moffat Limunga, Ntaja United defender Bonface Khaka and Bangwe All Stars defender Innocent Milanzie completing every fixture.
Several others narrowly missed full season appearances, including Chintheche United midfielder Blessings Idana and defenders Precious Fwetse, Moses Nyirenda, Aubrey Madongo Mwale, Frank Kasalika and Leo Kachika, highlighting the physical demands of a competitive NBS Bank National Division League campaign.
