Sweden-based professional women football star Tabitha Chawinga has scaled dizzy heights in Sweden where she has not only helped her second-tier league side Kvarnsveden IK win the league championship but also clinched Golden Boot award
Kvarnsveden IK finished with 66 points, five ahead of second-placed Djurgarden. Chawinga’s side completed the league fixtures with a 2-2 draw with Sunnana FC on Saturday to earn promotion into the top league.
With 43 goals in 26 games, the former DD Sunshine forward has ensured that within a season the team she joined from Swedish Third Division side Krokom/Dvarsatt IF last year, gets into the elite Damallsvenskern league.
Last season she also won the Golden Boot award and helped Krokom/Dvarsatt IF win the third-tier league
Thabitha thanked God for her achievement, saying nothing could be possible without the almighty.
“I thank you Lord for winning us the championship and for making me a top goal scorer. I praise you Jahovah,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Sunday.
Tabitha is one of the only two Malawian women professional footballers plying their trade overseas. The other one is Chisomo Kadzisonga who plays in Australia’s Bundesliga.
