Silver Strikers, Wanderers Set for FDH Bank Cup Final Showdown

The stage is set for an exciting clash as Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers meet in the FDH Bank Cup final on Sunday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

This will be the first time the two giants face each other in the final of the tournament and their first cup final meeting since 2018, when Wanderers beat Silver 3-2 to win the FISD Challenge Cup.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Saturday, Silver Strikers Head Coach Peter Mgangira said his team is well prepared and confident ahead of the much-anticipated match.

“We are well prepared for the final. The boys have trained hard and shown great commitment. We expect a good game and nothing but a win. We are not looking at past records — we are focused on tomorrow,” Mgangira said.

Silver captain Chikondi Kamanga said the players are motivated and eager to deliver another trophy.

“Morale is very high in camp. We are playing our second final this year, and everyone is ready to give their best to make sure we win,” Kamanga said.

Silver Strikers will be aiming for their second FDH Bank Cup title, having won the inaugural edition by beating Mzuzu City Hammers. Their road to the final has been impressive — defeating Mighty Tigers (1-0), Shire FC (4-1), Blue Eagles (3-0), and Civil Service United (1-0) in the semifinals.

For Mighty Wanderers, this final offers a chance to win the FDH Bank Cup for the first time since its introduction in 2021.

Head Coach Bob Mpinganjira said his side is determined to make history.

“We know we have never won this tournament, and it’s our wish to lift this trophy. The boys are hungry for victory,” said Mpinganjira.

Wanderers captain Felix Zulu said the team is focused and ready for the challenge.

“We know the importance of this game. Playing in a final is motivation on its own. We’ve already forgotten about the Bullets win and are now focused on Sunday’s match,” Zulu said.

The Nomads have battled through tough opposition to reach the final — beating Mafco FC, Mzuzu Hammers (2-1), and Creck Sporting Club on penalties, before defeating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets (1-0) in the semifinals.
