Silver Strikers Ladies Stay Perfect as First Round Nears Conclusion

With just one Match Week left to wrap up the first round of the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership, Silver Strikers Ladies remain in unstoppable form, maintaining a 100% winning record after edging FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women 1–0 on Wednesday at Mpira Stadium.

The league’s leading top scorer, Deborah Henry, scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute, sealing Silver’s eighth consecutive victory and taking her tally to 10 goals this season. It was a fiercely contested encounter, with the hosts coming off a 1–0 win against rivals Mighty Wanderers Queens in last week’s Blantyre Derby.

The Bankers had also defeated Civil Service United Women 2–1 in their previous Capital City Derby, where Henry was again on the scoresheet. Against Bullets Women, she proved decisive once more — combining brilliantly with Yamikani Mhango to slot home a composed finish early in the second half, her 7th consecutive scoring match of the campaign.

The result keeps Silver Strikers Ladies on 24 points, six clear of second-placed Ascent Soccer, who also registered a 3–1 win over Moyale Sisters at Rumphi Stadium.

At Rumphi, the hosts Moyale Sisters stunned the visitors early when Maureen Phiri converted a well-delivered cross from Shamila Mponda in the 27th minute.

However, Ascent Soccer came back stronger after the break, equalising in the 57th minute through Maggie Chavula, whose volley from the edge of the box left goalkeeper Linda Mwanza with no chance.
Two minutes later, Mayamiko Mkandawire put Ascent in front after being set up by Chavula before sealing her brace in the 86th minute to complete the turnaround.

The win took Ascent Soccer to 19 points, keeping them firmly in second place behind Silver Strikers.

At Champion Stadium, Malawi women’s national team international Asimenye Simwaka celebrated Mother’s Day in style, netting a hat-trick as MDF Lionesses thrashed Topik Academy 5–0.

Simwaka assisted Sabina Thom for the opener in the 4th minute before scoring her first goal four minutes later with a header from Catherine Kachala’s cross.
She added her second in the 32nd minute and completed her hat-trick five minutes later — both assists coming from Kachala, who later scored in the 48th minute to wrap up the emphatic victory.

Simwaka’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match accolade, joining Leticia Chinyamula (Ascent Soccer), Kondawo Banda (Kukoma Ntopwa), and Maureen Phiri (Moyale Sisters) as the only players to register hat-tricks this season.

In Mzuzu, MK Academy held Mighty Wanderers Queens to a 1–1 draw in a balanced contest full of missed chances.
Tawina Kawaga opened the scoring for Wanderers in the 10th minute after a neat through-ball from Grace Gumba, but MK Academy equalised in the 36th minute through Teleza Kanyika, who converted from the spot after Annie Palilangwe handled the ball inside the area.

Despite dominating possession, the Nomads couldn’t convert their chances, with Funny Moyo missing a golden opportunity in the 78th minute. Nevertheless, Moyo’s overall performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

At Mpira Stadium, Civil Service United Women defeated Kukoma Ntopwa Queens 1–0 thanks to a 50th-minute goal, recording their second win of the season to reach 9 points while maintaining 7th place on the table.
