Silver Strikers Crowned NBM Women’s Premiership Champions

Silver Strikers Ladies were officially crowned champions of the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership after edging FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women 2 -1 in the final day match played at Silver Stadium.

The title awarding fixture attracted high profile dignitaries, including the Minister of Youth Sports and Culture Patricia Wiskes, Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya, National Women’s Football Association Chairperson Adelaide Migogo, NBM Chief Finance Officer Daniel Jere, and representatives of Silver Strikers’ sponsors, the Reserve Bank of Malawi.

On the pitch, Big Bullets Women took the lead in the 37th minute through Chimwemwe Sapangwa, but Silver Strikers responded swiftly when Ireen Khumalo converted from the penalty spot two minutes later. The champions sealed the win in the 62nd minute through Wezzie Mvula, whose well taken curling effort beat goalkeeper Bridget Malemia.

Earlier in the day, Ascent Soccer concluded their campaign in emphatic fashion by thrashing relegated Moyale Sisters 15 to 0. International forward Leticia Chinyamula scored three hat tricks as Ascent secured runners up position on 38 points, seven behind the champions.

The result confirmed Ascent Soccer as league runners up, while the battle for third place went down to goal difference. MDF Lionesses claimed third place after a 4 to 0 win over relegated Topik Academy, finishing level on 31 points with Big Bullets Women but ahead on goal difference.

The season concluded with Civil Service Women finishing fifth following a goalless draw against Kukoma Ntopwa Women, while Mighty Wanderers Queens ended their campaign on 23 points after being awarded a walkover following MK Academy’s failure to honour their final fixture.
