Wanderers to meet Silver in Carlsberg Cup finals
Defending champions Be Forward Wanderers will face Silver Strikers in the finals of the 2016 edition of the Presidential Cup on September 10 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
This follows the Bankers’ 3-1 win over Mafco in the semi-finals at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday while the Nomads edged Mangochi Police 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
In Sunday’s match, a brace from revived forward Victor Limbani and Mike Roberts’ strike propelled the Bankers to the finals.
Silver’s first goal fame in the 74th minute when Limbani rifled the ball home after being put through by Binwell Katinji.
Five minutes later, Limbani claimed the second five minutes later when he pounced on a fumbled ball by Mafco ‘keeper Dalitso Makunganya.
Mafco pulled one back through Patrick Masanjala in the 83rd minute.
However, Roberts sealed the Bankers victory after volleying the winner with a minute to full time. Paipi was the architect when he set up Roberts with a fine pass.
Silver coach Lovemore Fazili gave credit to his players for a job well done.
“We missed a lot of chances, but we managed three goals which was good. I am very happy, ” said Fazili in a post-match brief.
Mafco chairperson Captain Peter Ng’oma, who spoke on behalf of the technical panel, conceded that they were outplayed.
At Kamuzu Stadium, lanky forward Ishmael Thindwa, who replaced Jimmy Zakazaka, scored the lone goal of the match.
Nomads team manager Stevie Madeira said they were given a good run by the lower league side
