The Malawi National Women’s Football Team are set for their first encounter against a Northern Africa opponent as they take on Morocco in an international friendly match at Kenitra Stadium in Casablanca this evening.
This is their fifth international friendly this year as they continue preparations for a crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying tie against Angola in October.
Head Coach Lovemore Fazili has traveled with a 24-player squad, including Ascent Academy’s Victoria Mkwala and Fatima Lali, both earning their first senior team call-ups.
Speaking after the final training session at the Sporting Center of FAR on Wednesday evening, Fazili said the match will help their on-going assessment ahead of the Angola tie.
” We are set for the match against Morocco tomorrow. Though we had a very long flight, each and every girl we traveled with is okay and ready to face the hosts.
“Our main aim here is strengthen the team as we prepare for Angola in October as we know that Morocco are a stronger side just like South Africa and Zambia whom we met in our previous friendlies so winning will just be a bonus for us but we wish to draw some positives from the experience and build on them.
“As a team, we know that we are also a good side and that is why we are able to attract big teams like Morocco so we will do all we can to give them a good game,” he said.
The game will be played under floodlights, with kickoff scheduled for 20:30hrs local time.
Meanwhile, the Scorchers have received a boost with the arrival of Kazakhstan-based duo Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadettar Mkandawire, who joined the team on Wednesday afternoon.
