Scorchers Set for Double Clash Against Lesotho

Scorchers Head Coach Lovemore Fazili says his side is ready to face Lesotho’s Mehalalitoe in two international friendly matches scheduled for Friday, August 29 and Sunday, August 31 at Mpira Stadium, Blantyre.

The matches are part of the Scorchers’ preparations for the COSAFA Women’s Championship and WAFCON qualifiers slated for October.

“The team is in good shape and it seems everyone is ready for the games tomorrow and on Sunday. We are focusing on rectifying all departments of the team, having combined experienced and new players in the squad,” Fazili said.

He emphasized the importance of the friendlies:

“It’s a friendly, yes, but since we are preparing for the WAFCON qualifiers and COSAFA Cup in October, these are must-win games. We have to make sure we build a strong team so that when the foreign-based players come in October, we are ready.”

Fazili also pointed out players to watch, including Hope Chikunga (Ekhaya), Fanny Moyo and Faluna Umali (Mighty Wanderers), and Enelles Fabiano (Mzuzu City Hammers).

The Scorchers will, however, be without star forward Mary Chavinda, who sustained an injury while playing for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women in an NBM Women’s Premiership clash against Moyale Sisters.
