Scorchers Draw Zimbabwe in 2028 Olympics Qualifiers

Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, have been drawn against Zimbabwe in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games following the official draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

A total of 35 nations will participate in the qualification campaign, which will be contested over five rounds, with only two African teams earning qualification to represent the continent at the women’s football tournament of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Malawi will begin their qualification journey in the second round, scheduled for 5 to 13 October 2026, where they will face regional rivals Zimbabwe in a two-legged tie.

Should the Scorchers progress, they will advance to the third round set for 23 February to 6 March 2027, where they are expected to meet the winner between Kenya and Seychelles.

The fourth round will be played from 4 to 12 October 2027, while the final qualification round is scheduled for 23 November to 4 December 2027.
