Scorchers Coach Eyes Strong Preparations for Angola

Malawi Women’s National Football Team Head Coach Lovemore Fazili has described the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers last round fixture against Angola as a tricky one and that Scorchers will need to exercise caution if they are to qualify for the finals.

Angola secured their spot in the next round after defeating Zimbabwe in a penalty shootout on Wednesday following a 3-3 aggregate tie.

Malawi advanced automatically to the second round after their first round opponents Congo withdrew from the qualifiers.

Fazili emphasized the need for thorough preparation for the Angola tie to be played in October.

“It’s a tricky fixture, especially since many expected Zimbabwe to progress. We need to plan well, continue playing friendly matches, and analyze Angola’s style of play.

“As a coach, I will do my best to assess their strengths and weaknesses.”

“It is a very big motivation because after so many years Malawi has never competed in WAFCON Qualifiers and we will try as much as possible to have a very strong team to compete with Angola and qualify for AFCON,” he said.

The Scorchers last faced Angola in the 2021 COSAFA Cup, where Malawi secured a 2-0 victory.
