Scorchers Advance as Congo Withdraws from WAFCON Qualifiers

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) wishes to inform the public that the Congolese Football Federation has officially withdrawn its Women’s national team from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers due to a lack of competitions and preparation.

The Scorchers were scheduled to play against Congo on 20th February at home, with the return leg away on 25th February 2025.

As a result, the Malawi Women’s National Team will automatically advance to the next round of the qualifiers where they will face the winner between Zimbabwe and Angola in October later this year.

FAM plans to proceed with the team’s camping programme as the Association is working on arranging friendly matches to ensure the FIFA Window is fully utilised.

Further details regarding the team’s next steps will be communicated in due course.
