RESOLUTIONS OF THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION OF MALAWI (FAM) EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

Media Release

Pursuant to Article 41 of the FAM Statutes (2019), the Football Association of Malawi Executive Committee (“the Committee”) held its 1st 2025 Executive Committee meeting on 1st February 2025 at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel in Mzuzu. Various issues that are critical to Transforming the Game of Football in Malawi were discussed. Some of the key resolutions and approvals made during the meeting include: –

Technical Matters

  1. The Committee resolved (upon recommendation by the FAM Technical Committee and Coaches Association of Malawi) to offer Coach Calisto Pasuwa a two-year performance-based contract for the position of Head Coach for Senior Men’s National Football Team.
  2. The Committee resolved that The Scorchers ( Malawi Women’s National Football Team) is proceed to play friendly matches against The Copper Queens (Zambia Women Football Team) in Lusaka, if the AFCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville is not played during the forthcoming FIFA Womens Football International break. The meeting also approved that the team should commence camping on Friday 7th February 2025.
  3. The Committee resolved to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Malawi School Sports Association and FAM and further resolved that FAM should proceed to have a signing ceremony for its implementation to improve grassroots football across the country.
  4. The Committee resolved to approve the implementation of the Football Academy Regulations to be the guiding document for operations and licensing of the football academies in Malawi.
  5. The Committee resolved that all categories of National Football Teams, (men, women, boys, girls and Beach soccer) should participate in all International Football Competitions in the year 2025 if resources permit.

Finance and Administration Matters

  1. The Committee resolved to approve the January to December 2024 financial position of the Association.
  2. The Committee resolved to approve the 2025 budget estimated at MK12,457,000,000 that is envisaged for operations, Administrative and Capital Expenditure costs in the year.

Competitions

  1. The Committee resolved to approve the 2025/2026 Football Calendar that is designed to accommodate the calendar switch transition, and the calendar will start on 29th March 2025 and end on 28th February 2026.
  2. The Committee resolved that the League Development Committee should be assigned to work on the feasibility of introducing a designated competition for the Reserve Teams of Super League Clubs
  3. The Committee resolved to approve that the inaugural National Division League should kickoff on 24th May 2025.
  4. The Committee resolved, in a quest to de-congest the Football Calendar, approved the review of the format for the Castel Cup that Super League teams should join the competitions in round of 32.
  5. The Meeting resolved to approve the introduction of District Leagues to be sponsored by FAM and the same to be played by Under 21 teams.
  6. The Committee resolved that FAM should hold the newly introduced CAF Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop by June 2025.

Commercial and Marketing

  1. The Committee approved the recommended shortlisting for e-ticketing service providers for 2025/26 season. Upon successful contract negotiations, FAM shall publicize the approved list.
  2. The Committee resolved that for 2025 NBS Bank Charity Shield, the proceeds should be designated towards clean water provision for a rural health facility, located within the Eastern region and to be identified and implemented in partnership with Malawi Red Cross Society
  3. The Committee resolved to approve ( upon recommendation from FAM Competitions and Marketing and FAM Internal Procurement Committees) a new technical sponsor for National teams’ Jerseys and equipment for 2yrs. The new partner shall be unveiled soon after contract signing. Further, the Committee resolved to approve the new Flames and Scorchers Jersey to be launched in March 2025.
  4. The Committee resolved that FAM should organize a sponsors retreat to be facilitated by CAF Commercial Director for sponsorship alignment between FAM and its sponsors.
  5. The Committee resolved and approved the commissioning of the newly adopted Independent committee The National Tribunal Court.
