Regional Women’s Titles on the Line

Title races in the Football Association of Malawi women’s regional leagues have reached a critical stage, with tight battles unfolding in the Southern and Central Regions, while the Northern Region continues to be dominated by a single side.

In the FAM Southern Region Women’s League, Chitoliro Heroines lead the eight team standings with 25 points from 10 matches. They hold a narrow three point advantage over second placed Allan Ladies, who still have a game in hand. Ekhaya Cowgirls remain firmly in contention with 19 points from nine matches.

The FAM Central Region Women’s League is even tighter, with just one point separating the top two sides after 10 rounds. Fact Ladies FC sit top with 28 points, closely followed by Creck Sporting Ladies on 27. Blue Eagles Ladies are also in the title hunt with 21 points as the league heads into its final four rounds.

In contrast, the FAM Northern Region  Women’s League has seen Luwinga Ladies establish a firm grip at the top. Luwinga lead the table with 25 points from nine matches, despite having played a game fewer than second placed Ekwendeni Ladies, who have 19 points. Rumphi Ladies are third on 18 points, level with Lahewe Women, but ahead on goal difference.

The Golden Boot race in the Central Region is currently led by Jestina Bwanausi of Blue Eagles Ladies, who has scored 19 goals, five more than her closest challenger Evelyn Dalasi of Fact Ladies.

Bwanausi also tops the scoring charts across all three regions. In the South, Twana Banda of Nsuwadzi Queens leads with nine goals. Rachel Matemba and Susan Bamusi of Chitoliro Heroines, together with Esther Nyalugwe of Allan Ladies, are tied on seven goals each.

Bamusi joined the seven goal mark after scoring a brace in Chitoliro Heroines’ emphatic 4 to 0 win over FOMO Ladies, with Zita Bosco and Evelyn John adding the other goals.

Elsewhere, Ekhaya Cowgirls recorded the biggest win of the weekend after thrashing Zomba City Lioness 8-0. Eliza Mugwa scored a hat trick, Evelyn Lloyd and Cathy Muthambo netted braces, while Maggie Msiska added another to complete the rout.
