Red Lions displace Baka City on 2nd place of NBS Bank NDL 2025 as Namitete Zitha move to 3rd

In a fiercely fought match between former TNM SUper League sides, Red Lions and Bangwe All Stars, the Zomba-based military side narrowly won 1-0 through Dan Nyambose’s 21st minute goal — a result that has pushed them to second place of the inaugural NBS Bank National Division League (NDL)

The Red Lions have earned 9 points sharing with Mitundu Baptist and Namitete Zitha, who beat Jenda United 2-1 also this afternoon through Bester Muheliwa (77′) and Matthews Hanzi (87’) at Rumphi Stadium.

The three teams are separated by goal difference as Mitundu lead the table since they scored seven goals while conceded two, Red Lions have amassed five goals so far and conceded two while Namitete Zitha scored five against three.

Red Lions have thus displaced Baka City on second position, who temporary jumped to the position from 6th with 8 points yesterday after stopping Mitundu Baptist from extending their lead of the NBS Bank NDL 2025 winning by a narrow 1-0.

Baka City, who are another team that got relegated from the TNM Super League in the 2024 season, have further been pushed to 4th following Namitete beating Jenda United.

At just behind a point to the three teams ahead of them, Baka seem to be intent on returning to the Super League through this NBS Bank National Division League having tasted the elite football for just one term.

Meanwhile, another TNM Super League 2024 participant, FOMO FC beat Ntaja United 1-0 through Chitsanzo Saidi 10th minute goal at Mulanje Park to move from 8th position to 7th as they too eye the return to the elite league.

FOMO share 6 points from four games with Bangwe All Stars but are separated by goal difference as the Mulanje-based outfit now have five goals against two while Bangwe have four against four.

Jenda United, who scored late against Namitete United through Robert Chipeta’s 90th minute goal, still lie at the bottom of the 12-team league having lost all four matches — scoring just two and conceding 11.

Players of the Match this afternoon were Macfen Mdolo (FOMO FC); Rajabu Yasin Namitete Zitha) and Dan Nyambose (Red Lions).

In the other game yesterday, Chintheche Stars beat Ndirande Stars 3-2 to  temporary move to 3rd place tying on 7 points with second-placed Ntaja United but separated by goal difference.

On Friday, Chilumba Barracks and Mchinji Villa maintained their NBS Bank National Division League 10th and 11th relegation zone position respectively after drawing 2-2 at Rumphi Stadium, host venue for the military side.
