Raising the bar in the midst of covid-19 pandemic

Dear Friends of Football,

First and foremost, on behalf of the FAM Executive Committee, allow me to send my warm Compliments of the Season to all our Football Stakeholders.

Football wise and in general, it has largely been a very difficult and challenging year due to the COVID–19 pandemic which affected the implementation of Football programmes and projects as the pandemic led to:

No football activities for seven months between March and September 2020; Suspension of most of our football development programs as resources were redirected towards mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 on football; Disturbance of the whole football calendar as we re-aligned the  calendar from March to December to October to July.

It has been a year of the new normal. Staying home. Washing of hands. Sanitizing, Masking Up and observing social distancing.

However, we are glad that after patiently waiting for seven months, government finally allowed us to restart Football with National Teams and Super Leagues matches in October 2020.

The return to the field of play and surviving the pandemic as a disease will remain the biggest achievements that we will cherish looking at the misfortunes of 2020 as our game was saved from collapsing.

But amidst all these challenges, we have managed to achieve some key strategic milestones on our promise to Raising the Bar as per the Dashboard Attached.

FAM, through its Executive Committee, would like to take this opportunity to thank all its key stakeholders and partners, among them FIFA, CAF and the Malawi Government through the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Health, Malawi National Council of Sports, Member Associations, Football Clubs, Sponsors, the Media and Football Interest Groups whose support has enabled us to navigate through these difficult times.

With the COVID-19 second wave set to hit us again and distract our full recovery from the pandemic effects, we would like to humbly request all our stakeholders and partners to continue working hard in enforcing and observing the COVID-19 preventive measures.

FAM is fully committed to ensure that it fulfils all the promises made in 2019 through the Raising the Bar manifesto and see to it that football is developed in the country.

The New year is upon us and we wish it brings better health, stability and prosperity for ourselves, our families and our game.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
