A first half brace from Maxwell Gasten Phodo propelled FCB Nyasa Big Bullets into the semifinals of the Castel Cup following a 2 to 0 victory over Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium.
Phodo opened the scoring just six minutes into the match after an early attacking move by the People’s Team. He completed his brace 14 minutes later to put Big Bullets firmly in control and secure progression to the last four.
The result sets up a semifinal meeting for Big Bullets against the winner between Mzuzu City Hammers and holders Mighty Wanderers, who face off at Rumphi Stadium on Sunday.
Reacting to the match, Mighty Tigers head coach said his side were beaten by a strong opponent.
“We did not attack enough, especially after conceding early, but we will take the positives and continue building,” he said.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Gilbert Chirwa said making use of early chances proved decisive and praised Phodo, who was named Man of the Match.
“We are delighted to have won such an intense match. Utilising our early chances was crucial and Phodo delivered. Now our focus shifts to staying strong as we prepare for the semifinals,” said Chirwa.
In the other confirmed semifinal, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos will take on Blue Eagles.
