
Malawi Under-17 national team striker Peter Banda won the Golden Boot Award at the 2016 Cosafa Under-17 Tournament in Mauritius with five goals.
The 16-year-old striker, inspired Junior Flames to finish third at the youth showcase.
Peter, son to former Nyasa Big Bullets midfield maestro, the late Chikondi Banda, scored a hat-trick in the Junior Flames’ 5-0 thumping of Kenya in group stages. He also scored a goal against Namibia in semi-finals which ended one-all in regulation time, but the Namibians went on to win on penalties.
He was also on target when Malawi beat Kenya 2-0 to win the third-place.
“I am very happy to have finished as top scorer in only my first international tournament, hopefully this is the start of good things to come.
“I will continue working hard so that I can get better and better,” he said.
Namibia’s Abram Tjahikika was the second leading scorer with four goals.
