Malawi National Football Team Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has expressed confidence that the Flames are ready for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Namibia at the Obert Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, tomorrow.
Pasuwa acknowledged that a few players joined camp late, but said the squad has adjusted well and is prepared for the challenge.
“The guys are ready. We travelled recently and today we did some light stretches, resting them in the morning. Besides a few cases like Mayele and some other names being mentioned, as of now we will only confirm at the last minute if there are changes. But overall, the boys are ready to go,” he said.
The coach emphasized the importance of fitness and match sharpness in his team selection.
“For us to choose a team that will play tomorrow, we need these boys to be fully fit. As you can see, some of them have been active in their leagues, which is an advantage to us this time around.”
Pasuwa also underlined the team’s determination to restore confidence and respect.
“We know we can’t be playing games and losing games. People have looked down upon us, which is why we need to do well. Once we start getting results, even the new players coming in will gain confidence in the solid team being built.”
On the absence of midfielder Lloyd Aaron, Pasuwa said there is enough cover in the squad.
“We have Singini, who plays in central midfield, and Lloyd Njaliwa, who has been playing as a number 8. Patrick is also versatile and can play in that role. So we have numbers in the central midfield.”
The Flames currently sit 5th in Group H with 6 points from 6 games and will be looking to improve their standing with a positive result against Namibia.
