Ntopwa exit CWCL | Cosafa Qualifiers

Ntopwa 0-4 Double Action Ladies (Lesego Radiakanyo 7′ 84′, Oteng Bonang 37′, Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse 48′)

Ntopwa Women’s FC are out of the CAF Women’s Champions League|Cosafa Qualifiers following their 4-0 loss to Botswana’s Double Action Ladies at Chatsworth Stadium on Monday afternoon.

This was a must-win game for the James Sangala side to remain in contention for a place in  the knockout stages as the group was wide open to all the four teams going into today’s matches..

However  Ntopwa conceded four and have finished bottom of the table with a point.

The  amagheto Kids conceded as early seven minutes into the match as Lesego Radiakanyo put Action Ladies ahead before Oteng Bonag doubled the lead 30 minutes later.

Sangala made and an early substitution bringing in Kondawo Banda for Mary Mbalangwe  in the  37th minute but the move did not yield anything for Ntopwa.

The Double Action Ladies found another goal  in the 38th minute through a penalty after Lydia Nchochoma fouled Lesego in the 18 yard Box and captain Gaonyadiwe converted the spot kick.

Lesego claimed a brace with eight minutes to go to seal her teams qualification as group winners.

Coach James Sangala said: “It’s a disappointing to exit  like this because we expected that the girls will rise to the occasion and win the game but they did not turn up for the game looking at their body language from the first minutes. The first goal was very disappointing for the girls and they failed to pick up.

“However, there are a number of lessons that we have drawn from the tournament. Our girls are good but are not strong enough like the other teams. As we go back home, we will look at our recruitment plan to have players who are physically strong. This is a big stage that needs experienced players and we hope our girls will go back home differently having seen how tough the competition is at international level and obviously, we will come back stronger next time.”

The team will be coming back to Malawi on Tuesday.
