Nkhoma Confident Ahead of Burundi Second Leg

Malawi Under-17 Women’s National Team head coach Chisomo Nkhoma says her side is ready to face Burundi on Saturday, April 18, at Stade Intwari in Bujumbura.

The Young Scorchers go into the return leg trailing 2-1 on aggregate after falling short in the first leg at Bingu National Stadium, where they failed to capitalise on several promising chances.

Despite the setback, Nkhoma remains optimistic about her team’s chances of turning the tie around.

“The girls are mentally prepared and physically fit. We may have missed opportunities in the first leg, but I am optimistic that we will carry the day against Burundi,” she said.

The team has been working on improving their tactical approach, with emphasis on composure in front of goal and defensive resilience.

With the aggregate scoreline in Burundi’s favour, Malawi will need a strong performance away from home to overturn the deficit and keep their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification hopes alive.

The winner of the two-legged encounter between Malawi and Burundi will progress to the next round, where they will face the winner between South Sudan and Ethiopia.
