NFRA Elective Conference Cut Short Amid Dispute Over Voters Roll

The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) elective conference ended prematurely on Saturday due to disagreements on issues to do with the voters roll.

FAM First Vice President Christopher Madalitso Kuyera-who was the presiding officer for the elections- made a determination that the elections had been postponed following a protracted disagreement on delegates from Chitipa District Football Association.

In view of the foregoing, the NRFA executive remain dissolved and that FAM will make a determination on the way forward.

The voting process had started albeit late due to the same disagreement where the General Assembly resolved to allow only two delegates instead of four from Chitipa to vote.

Before the disagreement, delegates had endorsed all the positions that were nominated unopposed save for the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and General Secretary positions.

The decision meant that the total number of delegates allowed to vote was reduced to 26 from 28.

After two rounds of voting the two candidates for the position of chairperson, Chauka Mwasinga and Masiya Nyasulu tied at 13 points apiece.

Thus, when the house reconvened to resume voting, the issue of voters roll resurfaced and the house failed to agree on way forward forcing the conference chairperson to call it off.
