Ndirande Stars Take NDL Lead After Matchweek Three

Ndirande Stars have moved to the top of the NBS Bank National Division League table after Matchweek Three, leading on goal difference ahead of Songwe Border United and Embangweni United, who also have seven points.

Only one point separates the top four teams after three rounds of action, with Extreme FC sitting fourth on six points, while FOMO FC are fifth with five points.

At the bottom, Namitete Zitha and Changalume Barracks are yet to collect a point, while Chilobwe United and Bangwe All Stars have one point each and remain in the relegation zone.

The Matchweek Three fixture between Namitete Zitha and Chilobwe United, which was scheduled for Sunday at Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji, was postponed following the passing of Chilobwe United Technical Director Rodgers Yasin. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the veteran coach before this weekend’s matches.

Ndirande Stars claimed top spot after beating Changalume Barracks 4-2 at Zomba Stadium on Saturday. Macray Chiwaya opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Moses Gunde doubled the lead in the 48th minute.

Changalume responded through Precious Maganga and Blessings Harawa to level the match, but Coranzo Zonda restored Ndirande’s lead before substitute Kondwani Kucheza sealed the victory in the 75th minute.

Songwe Border United moved into second place after coming from behind to beat Bangwe All Stars 2-1. Bangwe took the lead through Upile Kapunja in the 29th minute, but Emmanuel Munthali equalised just before half time before Dickson Mwangonde scored the winner in the 61st minute.

Embangweni United maintained their unbeaten start after a goalless draw against Mzuzu City Hammers at Rumphi Stadium, while Extreme FC dropped from the summit after losing 2-1 to Ntaja United.

Ntaja United scored through Hussein Sanudi and Adam Ali, while Extreme FC pulled one back late through Chifundo Ngonjera.

At Mulanje Park, FOMO FC climbed to fifth place after beating Mighty Tigers 1-0, courtesy of Divason Daud’s 39th minute goal. The defeat saw Tigers drop from third to sixth on the standings.
