NBS Bank has increased its sponsorship for the 2026/27 National Division League (NDL) by 96 percent, raising the package from K270 million to K530 million.
Speaking during the sponsorship unveiling ceremony, NBS Bank Head of Marketing Frank Magombo said the decision aligns with FAM’s Transforming the Game agenda.
“We are deepening our investment in the NDL because we believe in what this league represents and because we believe Malawi’s development league deserves a banking partner that shows up not just on the banner, but on the ground,” said Magombo.
He emphasized the league’s significance beyond football.
“It is more than a competition. It is a national stage. Across every district, in communities that rarely see elite football, the NDL is quietly identifying and developing Malawi’s next generation of players,” he said.
Magombo added that the bank will also use the league as a platform to expand financial inclusion.
“We will be present at match venues across all four regions, bringing banking services closer to the people. We will activate Easy Wallet and our mobile banking platform at every fixture, making it easier for Malawians to take their first step into formal banking,” he said.
FAM Vice Chairperson of the Competitions and Marketing Committee Daud Ntanthiko praised NBS Bank for its continued commitment to football development.
“I would like to sincerely thank NBS Bank plc for the continued support you are showing towards football in Malawi and our football transformation agenda, starting from the Charity Shield to the National Division League,” he said.
Ntanthiko highlighted that the sponsorship was initially pegged at K320 million, but was significantly increased by the bank.
“Because NBS Bank truly believes in the growth of football, they have almost doubled that figure to K530 million. For that, we are extremely grateful,” he added.
He also noted the league’s growing competitiveness, pointing out that all teams promoted from the NDL last season remained unbeaten after two matches in the elite league and successfully passed club licensing requirements.
The 2026/27 NBS Bank National Division League champions will walk away with K25 million, while each participating team will receive K20 million in subvention, along with two sets of uniforms as part of the sponsorship package.
