With Silver Strikers Ladies already crowned champions of the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership, attention now turns to the battle for the runners up position as the final two fixtures of the season approach.
Ascent Soccer currently occupy second place on 35 points, four ahead of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, who have 31 points. With only two match weeks remaining, Ascent Soccer will be keen to avoid dropping points as pressure mounts from behind.
In Match Week 17, scheduled for John Chilembwe Day on 15 January 2026, Ascent Soccer will travel to face fourth placed Kukoma Ntopwa Women at Mpira Stadium in a morning kick off at 11h00.
Kukoma Ntopwa Women, who have accumulated 27 points, are also under pressure as MDF Lionesses and Civil Service Women, both on 25 points, remain in close pursuit.
The outcome of the Kukoma Ntopwa versus Ascent Soccer encounter will be of particular interest to Big Bullets Women, who will also be in action at Mpira Stadium later in the day. The People’s Team face Civil Service Women in the afternoon fixture scheduled for 14h30.
Mathematically, the runners up race remains open. Should Ascent Soccer drop five points from their remaining six, and Big Bullets Women secure victories in both of their matches, the Blantyre side would finish second. Conversely, if Ascent Soccer lose both fixtures and Kukoma Ntopwa Women collect maximum points, Big Bullets Women could slip from third position.
At the bottom end of the table, relegation has already been confirmed for Moyale Sisters, Topik Academy, and MK Academy, who occupy positions ten, nine, and eight respectively. The three sides will be playing for pride as they prepare for life in the regional leagues next season.
Moyale Sisters will take on Topik Academy at Luwinga in the morning fixture at 11h00, while MK Academy will host the champions Silver Strikers Ladies at the same venue in the afternoon at 14h30.
Elsewhere, MDF Lionesses will host seventh placed Mighty Wanderers Queens at Champion Stadium. Wanderers Queens, who have 23 points, will be aiming to climb the standings, dependent on results involving Civil Service Women.
Silver Strikers Ladies, who boast an unassailable 42 points from 14 wins and two losses, will enjoy a guard of honour in their final two matches of the campaign. The champions have also produced the league’s Golden Boot winner, Deborah Henry, who has scored 22 goals.
Henry endured a three match scoring drought but will be eager to add to her tally if selected in the remaining fixtures, as she continues to push for further opportunities with the Malawi Scorchers.
Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili included Henry in his 32 member provisional squad that prepared for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
Silver Strikers Ladies also lead the league in goals scored with 45, conceding just nine. They are followed by Ascent Soccer with 33 goals scored and 10 conceded, while Big Bullets Women have netted 25 goals and conceded 11.
