The 2025 National Bank Championship District Finals are set to kick off this weekend, with 18 districts poised to crown their champions in matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday across the country.
The competition is expected to light up various venues nationwide, with high-stakes encounters as teams battle not only for silverware and prize money, but also for qualification to the regional phase of the tournament.
Neno District has already concluded its final, with Ligowe Young Soccer emerging champions after edging Tsaya Kings 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Neno Stadium on November 30, 2025. Attention now shifts to the remaining districts as the road to the regional stage gathers momentum.
In the Southern Region, Chikwawa and Mwanza will stage their district finals on Saturday, December 27, while Blantyre Rural, Thyolo and Nsanje will host their finals on Sunday, December 28. Other districts in the region are expected to complete their finals during the first weekend of 2026.
The Eastern Region will see Zomba crown its champion on Saturday, with Mangochi and Phalombe hosting their finals on Sunday. Balaka is scheduled to hold its final next weekend.
In the Central Region, district finals in Mchinji, Salima and Lilongwe Urban will be played on Saturday. Kasungu, Lilongwe Rural, Ntchisi, Dowa and Dedza will host their finals on Sunday, while Ntcheu’s final is scheduled for January 4. The date for Nkhotakota is yet to be confirmed.
In the Northern Region, Mzuzu will stage its district final on Saturday, while Chitipa will host its decider on Sunday. Rumphi, Likoma Island, Nkhatabay, Mzimba and Karonga are set to play their finals next weekend.
The National Bank Championship features Under-23 teams drawn from district leagues and Division One sides. At district level, winners will receive K2 million, runners-up K1 million, and third-placed teams K500,000. Individual accolades include K200,000 for the Player of the Tournament and K150,000 for the Top Goal Scorer.
District champions will advance to the regional stage, where winners will earn K3 million and qualify for the national finals. At national level, the overall champions will pocket K10 million, with runners-up receiving K4 million and third-placed teams taking home K2 million.
