Namitete Zitha have temporarily displaced Mitundu Baptist on NBS Bank NDL log table

Namitete Zitha drew 1-1 with hosts Ntaja United yesterday at Balaka Stadium to  move into second place on the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) log table, ahead of today’s clash between leaders Red Lions and now 3rd-placed Mitundu Baptist at the same venue.

Namitete scored early in the 9th minute by Andy Donda from a corner kick by Yasin Rajabu but it took up to time added after the 90th for the hosts to equalise through Prince Mwase.

The result has earned Namitete Zitha 19 points, tying with the leaders Red Lions and one ahead of Mitundu Baptist — but Mitundu Baptist might reclaim the lead tomorrow if they beat Red Lions ahead of the final match of the first round of this inaugural Malawi football’s second tier league.

Meanwhile, Ndirande Stars drew 0-0 with Mchinji Villa at Mpira Stadium for Ndirande to earn 13 points and move to 7th, replacing FOMO FC, who have 12 points ahead of their encounter against Baka City at Mulanje Park on Sunday

Ndirande Stars beat Jenda United 2-1 on Tuesday at Mpira Stadium that moved them to 8th where they displaced Ntaja United — and following their draw this Saturday afternoon, Ntaja have stayed put on 9th earning 11 points, one behind FOMO FC.

At this stage, with one Match Week left to wrap up the first round, all the teams at the top will be looking over their shoulders since the race is very tight as the 4th place is occupied by Bangwe All Stars at 16 points and 5th by Baka City on 15 points.

At the same time, the relegation zone is also a point of focus where four teams would be relegated to Regional Leagues — making the second round to be quite intriguing in the race to clinch the inaugural title for the overall champions and three places promotion into the TNM Super League 2026 for the top three.

Sunday’s fixtures for Week 10 are FOMO FC v Baka City at Mulanje Park, Bangwe All Stars v Chilumba Barracks at Mpira Stadium, Jenda United v Chintheche United at Kasungu Stadium, Red Lions v Mitundu Baptist at Balaka Stadium.
