Mighty Wanderers Queens have climbed to third place in the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership after easing past Moyale Sisters with a 4-0 victory at Mpira Stadium on Saturday.
The Silver Strikers Ladies vs MDF Lionesses fixture, which was scheduled for Sunday at Silver Stadium, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch caused by heavy rains in Lilongwe. The match will now be played on Monday at 14h00 at the same venue.
Wanderers’ triumph saw them move from sixth position to third, overtaking MDF Lionesses as they await the outcome of the Lionesses’ rescheduled clash against the log leaders, Silver Ladies.
In the morning kickoff at Mpira Stadium, goals from Funny Moyo, Tawina Kawaga, Esmy Chisale and maureen Mataka delivered a convincing home win, pushing the Nomads to 17 points — two clear of MDF Lionesses, who have slipped to fourth for the moment.
Moyo opened the scoring in the 15th minute after being picked out by Atuweni Njilima, before debutant Kawaga doubled the advantage in the 22nd minute, finishing off a well-placed pass from Chisale. Four minutes before the break, Faluna Umali released a long ball that found Chisale, who calmly slotted in the third.
In Mzuzu, Ascent Soccer kept the pressure on leaders Silver Strikers Ladies with a commanding 3–0 win over bottom-placed Topik Academy.
Ascent forward Leticia Chinyamula broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, converting from a corner delivered by Talandira Chinyamvula. She doubled her tally in the 36th minute after a clever assist from Maureen Kenneth. Chinyamvula sealed the result in the 59th minute with a brilliant solo run and a lofted finish past goalkeeper Jane Nyirenda. Kenneth’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
Back at Mpira Stadium, Kukoma Ntopwa Women and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women played out a goalless draw, extending their tight battle on the table. Bullets remain on 15 points, just one ahead of Ntopwa on 14.
This time, Bullets were led from the stands by head coach Maggie Chombo-Sadick, who was serving a suspension after receiving a red card in their previous match against Civil Service Women.
At Civo Stadium, Civil Service Women registered a 2-0 win over ninth-placed MK Academy, courtesy of goals from Vitumbiko Mkandawire in the 6th minute and Jessie Yosefe in the 54th. Mkandawire, who also assisted the second goal, was named Player of the Match.
