The Football Association of Malawi on Friday 19th June 2020 held a successful consultative meeting with relevant government authorities to get feeback on the Football Restart Road Map which FAM presented to Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture on Monday.
The Road Map details the proposed systematic processes for restarting football in the safest manner possible following suspension of football activities in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting drew representatives from the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Health, Malawi National Council of Sports and FAM.
FAM General Secretary Alfred Gunda said FAM got comprehensive feedback that will enable the association polish up the Road Map to be submitted to government for final guidance and approval next week.
“After presenting our draft roadmap to Ministry of Sports on Monday it was agreed that we should have this session with Health experts to critically review our proposal especially on the safety measures which we are proposing.
“After the session all participants were satisfied that once we incorporate the feedback and input from the experts, the Blue Print will be ready for submission to authorities for final consideration and approval,” said Gunda.
At the meeting Dr. Egolet Robert and Voice Mhone represented the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 while Ministry of Health was represented by Clement Mapanje and Dr. Jonathan Chiwanda.
Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Diana Nkhulambe and Director of Sport Jameson Ndalama led the team from the Ministry while Malawi National Council of Sports was represented by Chairman Oliver Nakoma and Acting Executive Secretary Henry Mereka.
FAM President Walter Nyamilandu-Manda led the FAM delegation that also had 1st Vice President Justice Jabbar Alide, Executive Committee Member and FAM COVID-19 Taskforce Chairperson Chimango Munthali as well Tiya Somba Banda FAM Executive Committee Member and Sulom President among others.
