Media Release :Ineligibility of St Loius High School and Malions in the Castel Challenge Cup National Phase

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions Committee has made the following decisions on the eligibility of St Louis High School and Malions in the Castel Challenge Cup national phase.

  1. St Loius High School

The Committee established that Dedza District representatives in the Castel Challenge Cup national phase St Lious High School registered and participated in the competition’s district preliminary phase as Dedza Dynamos Reserves. The team changed the name to evade the FAM Cup competitions rules which bar Reserve teams of Super League teams from participating in the national phase of Cup Competitions.

It is against this background that Dedza Dynamos Reserves (St Lous High School) is disqualified from the Castel Challenge Cup round of 64 as they are ineligible to participate in the competition at this level.  The Castel Challenge Cup round of 64 fixture between Dedza Dynamos and St Louis High School which was scheduled for Wednesday 11th October 2023 has been cancelled. Dedza District Preliminary phase runner up Magang’a will proceed in the competition and face Dedza Dynamos in the round of 64 at a date to be confirmed.

  1. Malions FC

The Competitions Committee established that Zomba District representatives in the Castel Challenge Cup national phase Malions registered and participated in the competition’s District preliminary phase as Red Lions Youth. The team changed the name to Malions to evade the FAM Cup competitions rules which bar Reserve teams of Super League teams from participating in the national phase of Cup Competitions.

It is against this background that Red Lions Youth (Ma Lions) is disqualified from the Castel Challenge Cup as they are ineligible to participate in the competition at this level.  As a result, Bocca Juniors from Mwanza, who lost 2-1 to Red Lions Youth (Ma Lions) in the round of 64 fixture on Saturday 7th October 2023 will proceed in the competition and face the winner between Bangwe All Stars in the round of 32 on a date to be confirmed.
