Mbulu nets in first Premiership goal, Gaba back in action

Malawi National football team striker Richard Mbulu on Tuesday evening netted his first goal of the season during his side Baroka FC’s 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Rivaldo Coetzee was the first to score for the current log leaders and defending champions as the team’s were about to go for recess but Mbulu came in with a stunning strike to level the score at 71 minutes.

However, Themba Zwane netted  Sundown’s winning goal just seven minutes before the final whistle .

Baroka are at the foot of the DSTV Premiership log table with 10 points from 15 games having registered two wins, 4 draws and 9 losses. The team has scored 10 goals and conceded 17.

In a related development another Flames Striker Gabadinho Mhango played his first league match for Orlando Pirates in over three months. Mhango came on as an 88-mimute substitute replacing Fortune Makaringe in the team’s one-all draw with Moroka Swallows.

Reacting to the news, Flames Coach Meck Mwase said this is a morale booster to the Flames as the team is preparing for AFCON finals scheduled for Cameroon next month.

In Tanzania Flames duo of midfielders Peter Banda and Duncain were both in action for Simba as the team  beat JKT Tanzania in the Azam Sports Federation Cup.

“This is a good development to us because as a team we have been experiencing a goal drought and since Mbulu our striker has started scoring goals, we believe that this has boosted his confidence on the goal as we prepare for the forthcoming Afcon Finals.

“We are also happy that one of our players Mhango is back into the Orlando Pirate squad after being absent for over three months. Game time is crucial for every player so having him back is a positive development for us,” he said.

The Flames are next week expected to leave the country for Saudi Arabia where they will camp ahead of the Afcon Finals.
