Malawi U17 girsl ready for second COSAFA tourney

The Malawi U17 Girls National team will this morning face South Africa in their opening match of the 2024 Cosafa U17 Girls Championship.

This is the second time the team is participating at international level, the first one being the COSAFA tournament which was played during the Region 5 Youth Games which Malawi hosted in 2022.

Then the girls finished third after defeating Botswana 9-0 in the match for this place.

The team however lost 4-1 to South Africa in the group stage match and Head Coach Linda Kasenda says it’s now time for revenge.

“We had a loosening session yesterday after a long travel on the road and today we had a full session, the girls look ready for South Africa.

“South Africa is a good team but we also have a good side. We know they have some players from the CAF Schools Championship last year as well as this year, same like us so though they are strong, we are equally good”, said

Group winners and best second placed team will advance to semifinals.
