Malawi starts preps for CAF Schools COSAFA Qualifiers

The Malawi National Schools boys and girls national teams went into camp on Tuesday  at Kasungu teacher training College in preparation for the CAF African Schools Championship-Cosafa Qualifiers to take place in Walvis Bay Namibia between 11-13 October 2024

Just like last year, national select squads will  be the flag bearers at the competition whose winners will qualify for the African  Schools championship to be held next year.

Moses Chimbetete is the Head Coach for the boys team while Bridget Chirwa is heading the girls team technical panel

The competition, which will showcase the best under 15 talent from across Southern Africa, will feature teams from nine COSAFA member countries: Malawi, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Both Boys’ and Girls’ tournaments will start with round-robin format in three groups and the group winners  along with the best runner-up, will advance to the semifinals.

The knockout stage will follow, with semifinal winners progressing to the final and the winner will qualify for the Africa Championship.

This year, the girls’ tournament format has changed as teams will now compete on a full-size pitch with 11 players from a five a side set up.

The Malawi Squad will depart on Monday, 7 October 2024 by road through Zambia to Namibia
