Mafco FC  became the last team to clinch a spot in the semifinals of the 2016 Calrsberg Cup following a 1-0 win over beat Nyasa Big Bullets in a rescheduled Carlsberg Cup quarterfinal tie at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, August 20, 2016.
The Soldiers scored the lone goal of the match through a Saidi Ntekama’s 80th minute headed strike.
The goal originated from a throw-in, which former Be Forward Wanderers winger Benard Harawa, flicked into the path of Ntekama, who planted the ball home with a bullet header that beat Bullets’ in-form keeper Ernest Kakhobwe on the far post.
Bullets team manager Rahim Ishmael conceded defeat, blaming the opponents’ goal on communication breakdown between his central defenders.
Mafco’s acting team manager Captain Noel Chakhame saluted his charges for putting up a spirited performance.
Mafco will face Silver Strikers in the second semifinal on Sunday 28th August while Mighty Be Foward host Mangochi Police in the first semifinal a day earlier.
The Mafco and Big Bullets match was supposed to be played last Saturday but was cancelled due to a fracas that happened at the eve of the match involving Mafco and Bullets players at the Chitowe ground.
