Machinga Crowns First Nthanda U14 and M’mera Mpoyamba U16 Champions

Machinga District has crowned its inaugural champions in the Nthanda Under 14 League and the M’mera Mpoyamba Under 16 League following the conclusion of the first season of the newly introduced competitions.

The leagues form part of a wider youth football expansion that has also been rolled out in Thyolo, Neno, Mwanza, and Machinga.

In the Nthanda Under 14 League, Kimu Stars emerged champions after a competitive season that was initially played in two groups before progressing to the semi finals and final. Star Family finished second, while Marie Admarc Lions claimed third place.

The M’mera Mpoyamba Under 16 League title went to Young Soccer FC, who showed consistency and resilience throughout the campaign. Joho FC settled for second place, with Nsanama Tigers completing the top three.

Elsewhere, the race for the M’mera Mpoyamba Under 16 title remains wide open in Blantyre, with Blantyre United, Agumbala Stars, and Mpingwe United all still in contention. Over the weekend, Machinjiri Academy edged Blantyre United 1 to 0, while Agumbala Stars also registered a narrow 1 to 0 win against Mpingwe United.

In other Under 16 results, Lyzee United defeated Soche Madrid, while Future Stars claimed a 2 to 0 victory over Kangaroo Academy.

The Nthanda Under 14 League also delivered exciting action across various centres. Super Boys recorded a convincing 4 to 1 win over Zarie Academy. There were goalless draws between JZ Academy and Ginger Rhizome, as well as Nthutha Soccer and Chigumula FC.

Assima FC edged Ntopwa FC 1 to 0, while Tachira FC beat Last Babies 2 to 1. Kaka Young Soccer also claimed a 2 to 1 victory over Brothers in Arms FC.

In Zomba, the Nthanda Under 14 League continues to gain momentum. Zomba Soccer Saints have emerged as one of the most improved teams in the second round, climbing from 13th position at the end of the first round to challenge for a top three finish. They now sit on 45 points.

Mulunguzi Academy lead the standings with 57 points, followed by Anganga Academy on 51. Mitekete occupy third place, with Zomba Soccer Saints and Sparkle Foundation close behind.

In the M’mera Mpoyamba Under 16 League in Zomba, Zomba Soccer Saints top the table with 49 points, narrowly ahead of Disciples FC on 48. Saints United and Sparkle Foundation sit third and fourth respectively as the competition heads into its decisive stages.
