Silver Strikers Ladies forward Deborah Henry has set the National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership alight, scoring 14 goals in just nine matches to extend her lead in the race for the Golden Boot award.
Henry was in sensational form during the final match of the first round, netting four goals as the league leaders thrashed MK Academy 7-0, wrapping up the opening phase of the season with a perfect 100% record.
The prolific striker has been in red-hot form throughout the campaign, scoring in all but one of Silver Strikers Ladies’ matches. Her tally includes three braces and one four-goal haul, underlining her consistency and clinical finishing in front of goal.
Trailing behind her in second place is Mayamiko Mkandawire of Ascent Soccer, who has found the back of the net eight times. Mkandawire was just two goals shy of Henry before the final week, showcasing her own lethal touch in attack.
Mkandawire’s teammate Leticia Chinyamula sits third with six goals, while Tawina Kawaga of Mighty Wanderers Queens and Kondawo Banda of Kukoma Ntopwa Women both have five goals. The quartet of Asimenye Simwaka and Sabina Thom (both MDF Lionesses), Vanessa Phiri (FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women), and Maureen Phiri (Moyale Sisters) follow closely with four goals each.
In the creativity charts, Alephar Chimbeta of Ascent Soccer leads the assists table with four assists, highlighting her playmaking influence in midfield.
So far, 127 goals have been scored in 45 matches during the first round of the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership. Silver Strikers Ladies are the highest-scoring side with 28 goals, while the final week of the first round produced a record 17 goals, the most in a single match week this season.
